Pro Tips | Photos and Memories

Everyone associates photos with memories, and feelings behind those memories.  Let’s take a trip down memory lane for a minute … maybe you have a picture of you and your family on a camping trip when you were little.  You love that picture because you remember going to the same spot every year when you were a kid.  You remember swimming in the lake, catching fish and how much you loved roasting marshmallows by the camp fire.

Or, maybe your favorite is a photo of you and your friends at a college football game.  You remember bundling up to brave the cold and sitting in the student section for every single home game, cheering so loudly that you nearly lost your voice.

No matter what your favorite photo is, or where it was taken, you love it because it captures a memory.  Its why we take photos in the first place!  From great-grandma’s wedding portrait to an iPhone snapshot of family game night last Thursday, we take photos to freeze a moment in time so we can remember it forever and pass it on to the next generation.  Whether for your annual family portraits, or your once in a lifetime wedding, photos are a part of your legacy.

The Bottom Line

We encourage you to look through photographers’ websites and their social media photos with a scrutinizing eye.  Are the photos editorial, traditional or a mix of both?  Are they dark and moody or light and airy?  Are they stylistically consistent?  Most importantly, can you picture yourself in them?  What you see is what you will get so make sure you hire someone who has a consistent style that you love.

We wanted to share all of this to encourage you to carefully consider who you hire for photos, whether its us or anyone else!  Don’t be afraid to ask questions to see if your photographer is a good fit for you.  When you look back at your photos, you will forever remember the feelings and the experience associated with them.  So, hire someone who you resonate with, whose style you love, and who will give you the best experience possible.  After all … the photos, and memories that go along with them, are part of your legacy!
